Banhoek Chilli Oil is the brainchild of Stellenbosch local Ken Kinsey-Quick and was born from a hunger for subtle chilli-infused that could be used with a wide range of food ingredients without overpowering their flavours which is so often the case with chilli based products.

While chilli and herb infused olive oils are commonplace, the problem is that the strong taste of the olives obscures the subtle flavour of the chillies. Depending on which olives have been used to produce the oil, it can really affect the overall character. As importantly for chefs and home cooks, if raw chillies are left in the oil, the flavour becomes unstable over time and can turn the oil rancid.

Not so with Banhoek Chilli Oil which is made exclusively from premium locally grown rapeseed oil and Thai Birds eye chillis. Rapeseed oil is one of the healthiest oils on the market. With a neutral flavour it allows the delicious flavour of the chilli to come through and is highly flexible in its uses. The rapeseed oil used by Banhoek Chilli Oil also carries the prestigious CANSA Smartchoice seal, awarded only to edible products free of all known toxins and carcinogens.

What began as a home experiment for the family kitchen has quickly flourished into a fast-growing business that really started taking off in 2018. Banhoek Chilli Oil (UK) Ltd was established in late 2018 and started trading as sole importer and distributor for the UK in January 2019.
